For the uninitiated recumbent bicycles can be an intriguing phenomenon. The notion is quite unconventional. Recumbent bicycles seek to make biking a little less haranguing by placing the rider in a reclining position. This has implications for the comfort as the rider is happily placed in a position that enables better distribution of his weight; better than conventional upright bikes of course. Mathew Zurlinden from Detroit is a recent graduate and has put up some nice designs on his page here. Among the designs, is a good looking recumbent bike. Flashy and comfy are the two adjectives that comes to mind when one looks at the design. The red Recumbent Bicycle has a very relaxing-looking seat and touts a light weight molded CRE frame. Hubless wheels look extraordinary and the bike features Infina-Gear CVT Transmission. The latter feature is described in detail as something that would eliminate physical changing of gears and lead to easier uphill travels as well as higher speeds. The system also translates into very little maintenance. Clearly this Recumbent Bicycle is cut out for ease and would easily transform biking into a little less sweaty job. This in itself should be enough to lead to an early fruition of the concept. Jump for more images.
