With dramatic changes in climate in the past few years, natural calamities like floods and drought have become common occurrences in contemporary life. To battle the adversities of nature, Matsys Designs inspired by Frank Herbert’s famous novel, Dune, has come up with an underground city dubbed “Sietch Nevada” that will not only provide shelter, but also fulfill other basic necessities of modern life. Situated in the American Southwest, the underground city features numerous residential and commercial cavern structures, connected with a network of waterways and storage canals, providing transportation as well as water for irrigation. Along with offering safe refuge in cellular structures underneath, the underground city harvests water and energy on its surface, while food is grown using urban agriculture and aquaculture techniques.
