Nightstand alarm clocks are rarely designed to be held in your hand, therefore picking them to set the alarm becomes cumbersome. And you literally have to turn the alarm clock back and forth to see the time from your bed or desk. However, designer Avery Holleman has found a solution to these common but awkward situations with his new design. Hailed as โTimelight,โ the new design is an alarm clock inside an articulating lamp. The lamp arm lets you pull the clock over to you and set the alarm while lying in bed. Moreover, users can quickly and effortless move the angle and direction of the face of the clock to make it visible from different locations. This creates a fun physical interaction between the clock and the user, which isnโt possible with a stationary clock.
The Timelight comes in three basic forms: the face of the clock, which sits vertically at a slight angle; the LED lamp, which sits horizontally to the back; and the grip, which sticks out towards the front and makes the lamp easy and comfortable to manipulate. All three forms blend into one smooth flowing form, giving a comfortable and friendly feel. The clock is controlled by knobs and toggle switches for a more tactile and intuitive interface, instead of traditional buttons. The grip area is coated with a soft touch finish for added comfort. The LED reading lamp adds a nice function and makes full use of the articulating arm. The designer has added fun to the Timelight by combining light and time together in a single piece.
