Designed exclusively for use in the building and construction industry, the ProActive protective helmet by Tore Christian Bjorsvik Storholmen features many smart integrated features that improve personnel safety by a great margin. Winner of the Norwegian Design Council’s Young Talent Award 2008, the ProActive helmet can be fitted with radio, intercom or gas sensors to make it more technologically advanced for construction workers on the job. Specially designed electronic textiles can be charged overnight on a “charging peg” while ear defenders filter out harmful sounds frequencies allowing only conversations and warning signals to filter through. Ventilation channels keep the helmet’s temperature pleasant and transparent sections on the side display the shock-absorbing materials that line the helmet from the inside. Bluetooth technology can also be combined with the design’s e-textiles to help workers answer phone calls without taking off their headgear which instantly boosts protection.
