Bedroom Interior Mistakes and How to Fix Them

Your bedroom is a place where you start and end your day. So, it should inspire you to start the day on the right note and help you relax after a long, hard day at work.

Unfortunately, the way you design your bedroom plays a significant role in making it a functional and inviting space. Sometimes, something as simple as making your bed or layering it with a colorful weighted blanket can make your room stand out. Further, being clueless on simple tasks such as choosing the best furniture for your bedroom can lead to bedroom mistakes that you’ll have to live with for the rest of your life.

Fortunately, to help you design your sleeping space right, we have come up with some of the most common bedroom mistakes we’ve encountered over the years and how to fix them.

Let’s get started, shall we?

Mistake 1: An Unmade Bed

Most people underplay the importance of making their bed. A crumpled bed makes your bedroom look cluttered and disorganized.

The fix– Always make your bed first thing in the morning. To give your bed a finished and polished look, fold the edge of one of the sheets over the top of the duvet. If you want to go a step further, invest in quality bed sheets. Adding a patterned weighted blanket will add some color to your bed. Don’t forget to add a handful of perfectly layered pillows on top.

Mistake 2: A Bed That Is Too Big

Your bed is your bedroom’s focal point and the most important piece of furniture in the room.

Unfortunately, most people make the mistake of buying a bed that is too big for their tiny bedroom. A big bed will take up lots of space in your room, leaving very little room for anything else.

The fix – The first thing you need to do with a big bed is to make your bedroom seem bigger. You can do this by keeping the bed in the middle of the room. Placing the bed in the middle also creates enough space on the sides of the bed to walk around. Also, use a bedspread that isn’t too detailed to prevent drawing attention to the large bed.

Mistake 3: Poor Lighting

Too bright lighting can make it impossible for you to sleep. On the other hand, an extremely dark bedroom isn’t inviting.

The fix – Open the windows to allow natural lighting in your sleeping area. Also, add different light fixtures to your bedroom to complement the natural light. For instance, you can choose to have a task light on your bedside table or pendants and sconces if you have limited space. Investing in dimmers is another excellent way to help you adjust the light according to your needs.

Mistake 4: A Rug That Is Too Small

Adding a rug in your space helps muffle sound and adds color and pattern to your sleep quarters. However, a tiny rug makes your space look out of proportion. Even worse, an oversized rug will make the room feel crumpled.

The fix – To get a rug that is perfectly sized for your bedroom, you’ll need to measure your space. Also, ensure you get a rug that extends at least 18” to 24” from under the bed. If you already bought your rug, but feel it’s too small, try layering the rug over a carpet.

Mistake 5: Your Bedroom Has Too Much Clutter

A cluttered bedroom isn’t attractive. Moreover, a messy bedroom will make you more stressed and anxious. To keep your bedroom from becoming the dumping place for discarded litter, here’s what to do.

The fix -Take a few minutes every day to organize your bedroom. Also, invest in good storage options to keep your space organized. If your bedroom is tiny, buy furniture with extra storage or add floating shelves to save on space.
