An entry at Seoul Cycle Design Competition 2010, the “Bend” by a team of American designers, including Brian Mitchell, Eric Peloquin and Erik Askin, is a modern moped that allows swift and sustainable commutation in city environment. Running on 600W brushless electric motor, powered by rechargeable lithium-ion battery, the new moped can move at 20mph. In addition, the Bend stores an auxiliary battery in the seat tube for extended range. Based on the theme, “cycling with design: Seoul style,” the electric motorcycle connects the seat, storage and headlight with a bent lamination plywood piece, giving it an altogether different looks. The seat of the moped when required extends to accommodate another passenger. Integrating eight high powered LED’s in the headlight for better visibility; the moped removes the storage to become a “step-through bike.”
