Fibrous Tower, a deep study into exoskeleton tower typologies

Designer Juan De Marco teaming up with Timo Carl has come up with a concrete shell tower, which touting a unique cohesive design also provides a deep study into exoskeleton tower typologies. Hailed as “Fibrous Tower,” the shell structure compresses the structural and tectonic hierarchies of contemporary tower design into a single shell. Presenting a self-organizing articulation, algorithmically generated through a cell division procedure, in response to commonly conflicting design criteria, the shell tower operating within the thickness of simple shell geometry allows the use of conventional framework techniques to construct a highly differentiated tower. Relying on collectively organized intensities rather than on a hierarchy of discrete elements, the tower operates as a non-linear structure, where load is distributed by a network of paths that don’t require columns for external support.
