Float away on Beluga

beluga
What is the above picture reminiscent of? Anybody but the slowest of ‘em all would easily reply: a fish (mammal?). As a matter of fact Beluga is the name given to a white sturgeon or a white whale. With the inspiration behind the form explained, the only thing remaining to do is to explain the function of the object. Beluga is a seat inspired by the form of a fish. The very unique-looking item is actually a relaxing and comfy lounge. It is not to be passed over as a fanciful design and is ergonomically designed. Sit on it and float away in blissful leisure! The back of the fish forms the actual seat while the backrest is shaped as the tail fin to extend the allegory to a deserved fullness. The fish seat is made of plastic (for ease in moving it) and the upholstery is soft fabric/leather with stitching that enhances the overall shape. Beluga has been nominated for the Interior Innovation Award Cologne 2006. It is also available in an outdoor version, which has weather-resistant coating. I’m a real sucker for furniture inspired by animals and this one’s added to my inventory as yet another piece of curiosity.
