The results of the Fennia Prize 2009 design competition by Design Forum Finland have been announced and the Grand Prix went to Genelec Oy for the design of the Genelec 5040A active subwoofer. Designed by Harri Koskinen and the Genelec R&D team, the Genelec 5040A subwoofer enjoys a compact design that makes it different from conventional solutions. The overall design of the subwoofer is simple yet inviting. The speaker driver and controls are not visible from the outside and are placed on the base of the device. A new manufacturing method employing deep-drawn steel and die-cast aluminum has been used to create the subwoofer enclosure. Featuring an unobtrusive and modern appearance, the Genelec 5040A comes with a remote volume control for adjustment of the entire sound system as well as versatile acoustic controls.
