Jan Kaplicky Prague library in the offing

prague design

Libraries are a nation’s real wealth, believe it or not! Where Jan Kaplicky has won recognition for his Selfridges store in Birmingham and the ‘pod’ at Lord’s cricket ground, he was also selected to design a national library in his native home Prague, which would also be the first public building since 18th century. Thus it is also being speculated to be the largest new building in the Czech Republic. However, it is not just a library but will be equivalent to the foundation stone of democracy but colorful and grand.

The site marked for this grand architecture to come up is Letna Park across the Vltava River, also known for the quarters of Franz Kafka, the renowned Czech author. The library will look upon some of the great views in the city. The Kaplicky’s design is being called ‘octopus, as the structure suggests by its appearance.
