An entry at Safe Trestles design competition organized by Architecture for Humanity, the Trestles Beach footbridge by Winchester-based Dan Brill Architects is an innovative pedestrian footbridge in Southern California that gives a safe and low-impact access to Trestles Beach to the surfers as well visitors. The new pathway not just presents an inspirational and captivating design but also preserves and enhances the co-existence of a delicate coastal ecology and a recreational surf spot.
The footbridge is made in weathering steel plate and weathered timber decking that provides a resilient and robust structure, which requires minimal maintenance even in the moist sea air. The bridge also features two widened seating areas, together with educational signage to raise public awareness of the habitat and its endangered species, along its length.
