Make It Right campaign: sustainable and affordable houses for New Orleans’ Ninth Ward

sustainable and affordable houses

The devastating Hurricane Katrina had rendered many residents of New Orleans homeless. To give the New Orleans’ Lower Ninth Ward residents homes that are safe, sustainable and at the same time affordable, actor Brad Pitt has started the Make It Right campaign. Fourteen renowned architect firms will amalgamate traditional New Orleans housing architecture that include Shotgun, Camelback and the Creole Cottage type housing with modern scientific designs to construct 150-home community over the next two years.

The most outstanding aspect of the Make It Right campaign is its intention to bring people into the community fold away from dispersed isolated lives. The sustainable measures in building the project include selection of correct material and efficient energy usage. While the philanthropic efforts of Brad Pitt are laudable, its success depends on the acceptability of the idea by the residents of New Orleans’ Lower Ninth Ward.
