Maserati Tramontane: Electric car extends its interior to form the exterior

Remember Ondrej Jirec, the industrial designer from the Czech Republic who designed the Audi O back in 2008? The designer of the sustainable car with DJ set has yet again popped up an influential cruiser dubbed “Maserati Tramontane” that features a number of body panels, with different functions, color and material, flowing smoothly from interior to exterior. Presenting a slippery, aerodynamic shape, the electric car touts a digital display located on the dashboard, for better navigation and communication while moving on the road.

Distributing the body in four different layers, the Maserati Tramontane allows a clean, simple and open interior for scenic, winding roads. The exterior glass surface, supported by a black frame that attaches to the chassis, makes the first layer, and the second layer comprises the headlamps and the dashboard, which also carries the LED headlights and moves into the interior to protect the speakers and air vents.

While on the other hand, the impact resistant lower section of the seats, which further moves to the exterior to hold the taillights, become the lair that provides foolproof protection to the riders during a back bump. The fourth layer housing the electric motor and dashboard upfront is hooked up to the chassis to conceal the electronics.

Running on an all-electric drivetrain, with the front wheels driven by one electric motor and the rear wheels with their own motor, the Maserati Tramontane measuring 4,250mm (167 inches) in length and 1,170mm (46 inches) in height is quite similar to the size of the Lamborghini Gallardo. To quote Jirec,

It (Maserati Tramontane) is a lightweight electric luxury supercar. Its design philosophy is simplification and emotion. The idea behind this concept is to reduce the number of body parts, lower the overall weight, and simplify the building process by combining exterior and interior elements.
