Protea pendant lamp: An incandescent reminder!

Ouch! Did you just try and touch a bulb that was glowing seconds ago? Yup, it is quite hot! Often we tend to forget that large amount of energy in bulbs gets wasted as heat. So as a reminder we have Protea – a pendant lamp designed by Karl Zahn. A “thermo-tropic” lamp, Protea has petals that work like those of a plant. When the bulb is hot i.e. when the light is on, the petals move away from the heat; vice versa happens when the light’s off (petals close in). This mechanism is a ready reminder as to whether the bulb is hot or cold; a useful tools for some morons. It also reminds us of how much energy is constantly being wasted away. Protea lamp is quite distinct and a lot of thought has been put into its design. You can buy these pendant lamps here for $150 each.
