Self-knitting lamp shade

lamp knits its own shade

I always knew lamps are meant to illuminate the space around them and that lampshades are meant to diffuse the visual effect of the light and a lamp cannot create its own shade, both being two separate entities. However, here is a lamp that when switched on goes on knitting its own shade by slowly spinning and knitting its shade at a speed of three rotations per hour. This amazing piece of work was displayed at the Family of Form exhibit at the Design Huis in Eindhoven, Netherlands. Despite of the unusual idea of its creator who evolved an organism from the inanimate lamp, I truly cannot understand what its user will do with lampshades it will go on knitting.
