Winning entry at the competition to design a new bus station in Slough, England, the “Slough Bus Station” by London-based practice, Bblur Architecture, is an amazing architectural structure that displays form and function alike. Developed to revamp Slough’s town center under the £400 million “Heart of Slough” project, comprising numerous offices, residential and leisure areas, the new bus station spreading in a total area of 450 square miles will include operational facilities and passenger waiting areas. Formulating a new sheltered pedestrian route between the railway station and the town center, the Slough Bus Station also accommodates 10 bus bays, three layover spaces and associated bus stands for First Bus, together with a number of waiting rooms, a coffee shop, newsagents, toilet facilities and cycle stands inside the 140-meter canopy. Slated to break ground in early 2010, the new station will be on display at the Summer Exhibition, the largest open submission contemporary art exhibition in the world, starting from June 8 in the Royal Academy.
