As I write this post, the glorious Beijing Olympics opening ceremony is under way. The torch has just arrived into the stadium and the flame has been lit. The trail of the torch this year was riddled with many controversies. We won’t get into that for the moment but look hopefully towards what the brilliant designer Jerome Olivet had in mind. The Smooth is what he envisaged this year’s torch to be. Like a spill of defiance and free-spirited, the flame leaps up towards the sky, asking for redemption. Perfect blend of silver and red makes an impact and the unconventional form lingers. Proclaiming the spirit of the game that it matters not whether you win or lose, what matters is that you participated; fair and square.
