Houseboats with their limited abilities (including space) to sustain the changing weather conditions throughout the year have often been considered as a temporary form of housing. However, the “Tafoni Floating Home” by designer Joanna Borek Clement is a houseboat with difference that matching almost all the characteristics and comforts of a regular house seems to change our perception toward the life of floating on the water. Designed for the houseboat district of Sausalito, California, the new floating house by the American designer features a minimal yet spacious design, accommodating a kitchen, living area and bedroom with bathroom and closet area.
Presenting a living room up front, a fully glazed sunroom that houses the kitchen, a dining area and the main entrance in the middle, and a bedroom at the rear portion, the houseboat is enclosed by the modular repetitive ellipsoidal wooden trusses, which supports a large spanning capacity and eradicates the need for extra walls and columns, adding more space to the house.
