Slated to complete by the fall of 2011, the Waingels College located in Wokingham, United Kingdom, with its pioneering design is gonna be a modern temple of learning. Replacing steel and concrete, the new structure will be finished with cross-laminated solid timber panels that will drastically reduce carbon emissions, by about 60%. Breaking away from conventional designs of educational institutes, the new structure will feature more open, flexible and adaptable spaces that will largely make use of natural light and natural ventilation. The new structure will be large enough to accommodate 1,500 pupils, alongside 172 staff members.
Usability:
The eco-structure will be divided into three pastoral bases that have separate learning space for different groups under a single hub. Since educational institutes are the best place to widen the knowledge, the very structure of the Waingels College will draw learners towards a sustainable lifestyle.
