At the first look, it appeared to me as an old-fashioned alarm clock, but only after taking a closer look did I realize that a speaker replaced its dial. Dutch designers Herman Lijmbach and Jasper De Leeuw have designed a very unusual speaker, which they call the “WKKR speaker.” Created under the name Lijmbach, Leeuw & Vormgeving, the speaker borrows its name as well as the design from an alarm clock. “Wekker” is the Dutch word for alarm clock, which symbolizes loudness, bells ringing and waking up. Following the same idea for volume, the round, dome shaped loudspeaker is compatible with devices like PCs, cellphones, MP3 etc., and though still a prototype, the duo is looking for a company to collaborate with to put this design into production.
