When it comes to decorating your kitchen, you need to make sure that you have the right lighting to make it stand out. After all, if you are hosting a dinner party, you want your guests to feel comfortable and welcome when they are hanging around your kitchen or even sitting at the dining table as you cook. So, if you’re ready to add a whole new level of style to your kitchen, it’s time for you to buy some new lighting arrangements.

1. Task vs Ambient Lighting

First things first, you need to understand that your kitchen is going to require task lighting and ambient lighting to make it a success. Task lighting will focus in on specific areas of the kitchen while you work. Ambient lighting sets a tone and mood for you and your guests to enjoy whilst in the kitchen. Make sure to include both kinds of lighting. That way you can cook on your own and cook with company.

2. Fan Lights

So, if you want to start off with a basic lighting design, why not install some lights onto the fan above your cooker? If you want to make sure that you have some light shining down on your cooking, then this will make it easier for you to cook once it gets darker. Fan lights don’t need to be too large. Instead, two circle lights that highlight your oven rings so that you can see how well your food is cooking is good enough. It will also help highlight the steam that is coming off your food. This way, you can keep on checking on whether or not it is burning.

3. Under Cabinet lighting

If you’re looking for something basic but effective, under cabinet lighting is the perfect thing for you. It’s small but you need to remember that even giving your kitchen lighting a refresh can make a big difference. Undercabinet lighting is literally just adding thin lights to the edges of your cabinets and drawers. This will make a huge different when it comes to locating hidden cutlery, plates or ingredients, especially if your kitchen is a little dark and needs some extra subtle lighting.

4. Lighting Colors

Now, one of the most important things you’re going to need to think about when it comes to your lighting is its color. The color of your lights is going to depend on the color of your room and its natural temperature. If you have a kitchen that uses darker colors in its color scheme, you may want to go for softer lights or white natural, but if you have a lighter colored room or a pastel color scheme, you may want to go with a golden tone to add a softness to the room.

5. Island Counter Lighting

Sometimes you only want a certain area of your kitchen to be lit up, such as an island counter table and its seats. That’s why you need to have pedant lights installed that hang over the top of the table. They bring focus to the table with a light that is covered in a colorful exterior, made either out of plastic, metal or glass. You can turn them off and on depending on where you are sitting on the table.
