ATREE, a proposal by Rotterdam based firm BOARD teaches you to be patient with nature for the well being of the natural world. It’s a living art installation which only needs to be planted and it grows by itself. ATREE is a unique project which transforms your interactivity with nature into a resourceful play. Willow trees are central to this project under which this fast growing variety of tree would be woven with transparent molds thus helping the trees grow in variety of interesting shapes. When no longer in use the willows can be used as a renewable energy resource whereas the molds built from bioplastic Polyamide 11, which is made of castor plant vegetal oil can be recycled and reused. The project also intends to celebrate the planting of the seeds and the fixing, changing and removing of the bioplastic molds as public art performances. For its unique concept the ATREE became one of the finalists of the European Competition of Architecture, Design, Realisations in Eco and Agro-Materials.
