Beijing’s artistically ingenious National Aquatic Center for water sports

national aquatic center

I was so fascinated by the pictures of the National Aquatic Center in Beijing when I saw them for the first time, that I just could not stop appreciating its artistic brilliance. It was a rare marvelous spectacle to witness. Located just adjacent to the National Stadium at Olympic Park, this National Aquatic Center was created by designer Ove Aru in collaboration with the PTW.

The magnificent piece of art comprises two separate water reservoirs filled with lucid blue water. One pool is simply for testing and the other for swimming and diving. You can enjoy various types of water sports here, such as swimming, synchronized swimming, diving and water polo. The design resembles an enormous cube of water, and hence it is also called the water cube.

It has the capacity to accommodate about 11,000 spectators. The picture above gives a sideways glimpse of the National Aquatic Center, with viewers ready for a game. Is not the site a piece of absolute creative masterpiece?
