Designers combine old furniture with contemporary art

There is a saying in English: Old is Gold. This seems to be applicable in the furniture industry of today. Some designers seem to believe in th old after all. Some of the modern designers are actually taking old furnitures and stuff and revamping them with cool artwork. However, some folks might call the graffiti: Vandalism. Specially, when you paint fierce dogs on 19th century furniture, people can make harsh comments. Designers like Lisa Burke started by designing stints in the music business. Burke combined Matt Hazelden’s work and started painting artwork on old furnitures.

According to some designers, the modern artwork and ancient furniture makes a perfect couple.Fluorescent paint lights up old furniture. Dutch designer Maarten Baas as well as Chicago interior designer Kara Mann seem to revamp semi destroyed furniture with colors. Some of these designs are quite shocking. London gallerist David Gill agreed on this:

Furniture tends to follow art and art has been quite shocking over the past few years. There has also been a trend toward taking existing elements to create new pieces – for example broken porcelain or pieces of glass becoming sculptures.

I think this is a great concept. Several designers agree that changing old furniture like this lifts them to a ‘higher plateau’.
