Electrifying chess set by Brent Blake

electric chess set

Adding a new spark to the classic game of chess, American architect and chess player Brent Blake has come up with an electric chess set with a mirrored Plexiglass board surface and white laminate base to allow an electrifying experience to the players. Apart from aesthetics, the chess set also makes use of a number of electric components, such as plug bases, sockets, bulbs and ceramic elements, to make it highly functional. Replacing the usual chess pieces with transparent, colored and clear bulbs that the user can differentiate from colors, instead of size and form, the chess set employs low voltage bulbs (7w pawns and 11w for the rest), with a dimmer to control the brightness of the bulbs, making the game a bit more safer for the players. The electric chess set will be displayed on August 21, 2010 at Moses Lake Museum & art Center in Moses Lake, Washington.
