The “ao project” by GRAFT Architects is an urban apartment complex designed for a Japanese client. Following the city regulations for height, setbacks and maximum space allocation for business parameters, the building’s silhouette was almost pre-defined. GRAFT considered the peculiarity of this non designed shape and gave it a formal identity. The mound that sits atop the apartment box combines the setbacks on the upper levels. The balconies highlight the shape of the building taken off as Cartesian volumes. GRAFT is an architecture studio conceived as a ‘Label’ for architecture, urban planning, exhibition design, music and the pursuit of happiness.
