Awards are not new for Joe Fafard. He is the recipient of some great awards like the Order of Canada (officer) in 1981 and the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada Allied Arts Award in 1987. Fafard whose work is found in both galleries and on the streets in Canada was honored a lifetime achievement award at the Saskatchewan Lieutenant Governor’s Arts Award. Fafard was also honored in Ottawa this week as one of the 50 outstanding artists chosen. The function was to mark the 50th anniversary of the Canada Council for the Arts. An exhibition of his works will open at MacKenzie Art Gallery in Regina in the fall.
