Joy Yang of Queensland Univeristy of Technology, Australia has designed the Glowing Bubble, a lighting system for the elderly that aims to help them lead an independent life. Most elders fumble for switches and hence, a soft ambient glow helps them to get in and out of the bed at night. LEDS are used and thus the problem of heat being radiated is solved. The design is based on the research, which aimed to study the psychological, physical and visual conditioning of the elderly and also provide an ergonomic solution in the end.

The Glowing Bubble is designed like a bubble and can be carried anywhere and is soft, thanks to the silicon used. It could be used by both left and right-handed people and its simple design is aimed to alleviate the fears of the elderly about new gadgets. The brightness of the light can be controlled by a mere wave of the hand and can be carried anywhere they want to. The product is made of hard polycarbonate and soft silicon. This product may definitely help the elderly to have a safer home environment.
