Personal Mobility Robot is a Segway for indoors

indoor personal mobility robot

Intended toward the elderly and ones who have trouble moving indoors, the Indoor Personal Mobility Robot is a mechanical wheelchair that allows mobility around the house to the user. Crafted by the University of Tokyo, the prototype mobility unit works like a Segway, thanks to force sensors integrated in the seat, to move you within the house or workplace. The sensors detect the movement of the user and move or adjust accordingly to place him or her on the round cushion without any support. As soon as you are on the seat, you may control the wheelchair by leaning your upper body forward, back and sideways, as if you are riding a Segway. Measuring 130cm in high, the robotic wheelchair weighs just 45kg. Check out the video after the jump.
