The culture of growing vertical gardens enhances the architectural brilliance of both public and private domains. Architect Jose Maria Chofre has installed an eye-catching six-story vertical garden along the façade of a children’s library in the town square of San Vicente del Raspeig in the southeast of Spain.
The garden has been built on a dividing wall between the library and an existing apartment building. It consists of a double metal frame inserted with synthetic felted material to hold the plants. The plants can be easily accessed from the behind the metal frame and can be pruned or replaced using a scaffolding bar in the front.
The metal frame contains several rectangular bars for growing a variety of plants with each bar dedicated to the growth of particular plant. The lush green frame with ivy and ferns makes for a perfect entrance to a children’s library door. What better way to nurture fondness for nature in children’s hearts and minds.
