Density Fields from Oyler Wu Collaborative

densityfields00b
Designed by Sci-Arc professors Dwayne Oyler and Jenny Wu of Oyler Wu Collaborative with engineering support from Bruce Danziger of ARUP, Density Fields is an extreme cantilever built from aluminum and polypropylene rope. The piece refuses to be classified under either architecture or sculpture yet embodies the best of both disciplines. Using a dense filed of cables; the outdoor installation presents a magnificent meshed optical purview that plays with the light in the yard all the while manipulating the space with the sheer force of its structure. Though the design seems to be very violent in its outlook it’s actually an amalgamation of harmony in disparate dimensions. Density Fields is currently installed in the courtyard of Materials & Applications (M&A) in Silver Lake, Los Angeles.
