Designing the Perfect Sunroom for Relaxation in 7 Steps

Designing the Perfect Sunroom for Relaxation

Sunrooms are such a luxury if you were blessed with a house that has one. However, decorating a sunroom can be a little tricky. These shiny refreshing rooms can be such a relaxing sanctuary in your home if designed correctly.

If you don’t know where to start, you’re in luck! Consider some of our tips and tricks below to create the perfect little oasis of a sunroom in your own home.

1. Fill it with Plants

There’s no better place in your home for plants than the sunroom. Firstly, and most obviously, because there’s a lot of suns. Your little babies will be so happy and grow so fast in this bright room! Also, it adds to the whole “bring the outside in” vibe that sunrooms do so well. Be sure to find plants that do well in bright direct light, and a sunroom might be too sunny for certain types of houseplants.

2. Keep it Light and Bright

Avoid super dark colors in your sunroom for a few reasons. A big one being, the sun. The constant sun flooding the room can actually cause dark fabrics and paint colors to fade over time, meaning you’ll have to repaint the room and replace the linens more often. They also absorb the sun, so they’ll get very hot in the summer months.

3. Incorporate Color

An all-white sunroom can easily become too harsh on the eyes, so this is a great room to incorporate color! Be careful though because some colors that are very neon can reflect too much light and become blinding during the day. It’s best to stick to fun pastels and muted colors to keep the cozy and refreshed feeling. Great color choices include apricot, butter yellow, baby blue, jade green, lavender, and petal pink.

4. Play with Different Textures

To make your sunroom design even cozier, play with different textures. This can be natural woods, a thick area rug, suede pillows, a leather chair, and chunky knit blankets. It sounds like a lot, but as long as you stick to a similar style and color palette they’ll all look cohesive and sophisticated.

5. Include Some Comfy Seating

A sunroom is a perfect place to snuggle up with a good book or a fresh cup of coffee, so comfortable seating is absolutely essential. Since these rooms are typically not very big, look for a small sectional couch that will make the perfect place for you to lay down and soak up the sun.

6. Add your Coziest Blankets

Layering soft blankets and pillows on top of your comfortable sectional will really complete the vibe. They not only serve a functional purpose, but you can use them as throw blankets to add to the design appeal of the room.

7. Incorporate a Dining Nook

What’s better than waking up in the morning and eating your breakfast while basking in the sun’s rays? We can’t think of much. Try including a small breakfast table with either a bench or a few chairs so you and your partner can have a place to slowly start your day on a positive note.
