One of the winners at the biennial JID Design Award in 2006, the Parabola Light is a spotlight which uses the characteristics of a parabola dish to produce remarkable light effects. A collaborative effort by designers Keiji Ashizawa and Izumi Okayasu, the lamp creates a parallel light by shining a point light source to a focus on the surface of the dish which goes on to produce a mesmeric glow on the surface of the dish.
The direction of the light source can also be changed by adjusting its stride angle which makes it a great option for a wall or ceiling light fixture. With an aluminium bowl held up on steel and lit with a 150W halogen bulb, the light creates the most unobtrusive yet illuminated glowing effect which makes it an ideal light fixture for places that require dramatic yet soft light like art galleries and lounges.
