1. Green Screen

The same sunlight that gives us warmth in winters feels like a curse in summers. But a single setup that helps warm sun rays enter our room during the winter season doesn’t work when one wishes to block all the sunlight during the summer time. To end such worries, a Green Screen consisting of lower grass and screen has been designed. This method has exploited the natural cooling system of nature which gives comfort similarly as light filters through trees and leaves.

During summers, the screen shuts out sun-rays. In addition, just like Cocoon, green screen comforts you. It envelops the screen by taking up moisture through gels, which helps the grass to grow, whereas during the winter season the same screen lets sunlight smother your room as the green expires, leaving your space warm and cosy.

Air conditioning though is a necessity during summers but adds a lot of carbon dioxide to the atmosphere. Sunlight has been controlled in a way which will work for all seasons providing nothing but comfort.

Modern gadgets and household accessories have become so stylish and refined that people no more need to go for expensive sculptures to lend a refined look to their living spaces nowadays. Departing from conventional heating fixtures, the French company Arkiane has tossed up two innovative fireplace designs, Icoi (Icoya) and Yan-Li, that will elaborate the style statement of your lustrous living rooms. While the butterfly design of the Icoi fireplace drew inspiration from a God adored by the ancient Incas, the Yan-Li features comes in the shape of the flame itself. The wall-mounted fireplaces use wood for fuel, which requires an installed chimney system to exhaust the smoke.

The swanky fireplaces keeps your home and office warm and as they use natural fuel, they don’t harm the environment either. Though you may have to dig deep into your pockets to install one in your home.

3. Dutchtub

Lounging in one’s bathtub could be an ideal means of relaxation for some, but imagine transporting your tub to a place of your choice, and lying down in the company of your friends or family! Invented by Floris Schoonderbeek, the Polyester Dutchtub is precisely created for the purpose, besides it cuts down on your electricity consumption. All you require is fire to heat the spiral through which the water passes and flows into the tub, heated! The lower pipe transports the water to the heating system, once it runs through the whole system it flows out through the pipe above. It can be easily regulated through the adjustable stainless steel basket in the spiral.

Each tub is hand made, numbered, and fitted with a ball in the middle for the occupant to stretch his/her legs comfortably. It contains bottle holders with an additional feature to cool your drinks, so that you don’t need to move a step away from your tub, once you decide to recline in its comfort. It has a capacity of 800ltrs/200 gallons of water and makes use of a regular garden plug for the drainage purpose. You can enjoy a warm bath anywhere in the world, as long as there is water and wood around!

The tub, available in six shades, can comfortably accommodate four individuals, but can fit in a few more in the seated position. So, go ahead, plan out that vacation you so longed for, take along your best friends, but don’t forget to carry the Dutchtub to give you those special moments of togetherness, with your loved ones!

4. Adidas Hero

Adidas Hero - From below zero_01

Chilly winters in Scandinavia can leave your frozen till the core. Stepping out of the house seems like a punishment and the cold weather can turn you blue. Students from the Interactive art director program Hyper Island, have come up with an amazing concept, which will pump life into such a dead weather the Adidas way. Fernando Barbato, Mateja Aleksic, Kris Neufeldt Bangtson, Max Norman and Patricia Varella have designed an interactive screen game, named the “Adidas Hero – From below zero,” to be installed at bus stops. Just like Cocoon, it will generate heat depending on the activity of a person using it.

Adidas is famous for its sports gear and is out to conquer hearts even in the Stockholm winters. People spend a good amount of time waiting at the bus stop, which usually add to their woes in chilly weather. The students thought of designing a bus stop that would warm up by roping in people standing there. Shoe imprints will be embedded on one corner of the bus terminal’s surface. When someone steps onto them, a game will be triggered. To win the game, the user will have to act like a runner and fetch warmth for his/her team. The race will last for just 30 seconds and if you manage to hit the winning button, heat lamps will lend warmth for 3 minutes. Wow!

A player’s efforts will also be used to brighten up the area and make it visually appealing. The surroundings will help fight winter cold and also inject a sense of fun. Well, this is not it! You can publish your winning streak on the Adidas Facebook campaign as well. The bus stands will come caked in the charm of Adidas. The brand will be easily recognizable from a distance and make waiting for a bus an enthralling experience.

5. Basalto Fireplace

Basalto Fireplace

A fireplace is synonymous with a large room where it is wedged inside a wall. When that fireplace is a modern one, what more do you want? But not anymore! Max Battaglia has designed one in a truly ingenious manner, christened as Basalto Fireplace. The flames look like a volcanic eruption and lend an eye-appealing characteristic.

The design has been heavily inspired by the Giant’s Causeway, which is an Irish cliff. It is an area of interlocking basalt columns, which is the result of volcanic eruptions. Basalto Fireplace, unlike the traditional ones, can be positioned on the floor. This will allow people to sit around it and make family time more fun. Also the chimney has been swapped by a steel hood, which will be wedged on the ceiling.

Basalto Fireplace will be made available in two colors: white and black. They have been crafted in a jazzed up manner from glazed ceramic. The white one will be fed with ethanol while the black will be the traditional wood fed one. The uneven crafting manages to leave an everlasting impression. Basalto Fireplace will make the area, it is positioned in, look regal. So get warmth in your life and soothe those frazzled nerves as well.
