What is the best material for my garden furniture?
The next thing that confuses people when looking at garden furniture is which material will be best. Garden furniture can be purchased in a range of options, cast iron, wood, plastic and weatherproof materials are all very popular but there are some differences you may want to consider.
- Wooden garden furniture is stunning and looks great in a very natural garden, but it does require some work every year to keep it looking great. This means sanding it down and then treating the wood to ensure that it last as long as possible. During the winter it can also be a good idea to cover it to protect it from the elements or store it in a garage which is not always practical.
- Cast iron whilst a little sturdier against the elements than wood can quicky look tired and need some maintenance. Rust should be treated, flaky paint removed, and a new coat of paint applied on a regular basis.
- Plastic furniture needs very little care just a wash off and it is ready to use, however be wary of cheaper plastic furniture as it can also be damaged by the elements.
In our opinion, weatherproof patio furniture offers the best option.It needs little maintenance to keep it looking fantastic, and it is sturdier than plastic furniture which means it will not break as easily, become brittle due to the sun or even blow around in strong winds.
