A Guide to Garden Furniture Styles

Garden Furniture Styles

When it comes to garden furniture there are quite a few different options that you can choose from, and whilst you might know what you want before you really start looking it can soon become a little confusing. Not only are there many different types of furniture to consider they are also made from a wide range of different materials.

Our guide to garden furniture styles, including weatherproof patio furniture should help to make those all important decisions that will help improve the look of your garden.

Tables and chairs

Tables and chairs

Table and chair sets for the garden come in a huge range of sizes. Consider the size of your garden and also how many people are likely to be using them on a regular basis in order to find the ones that are best suited to your needs. If you have a small garden, particularly a courtyard garden, then a bistro set with 2 chairs may well be the best choice for the amount of space that you have. These sets are also ideal for very small spaces like balconies. Here, they fit perfectly without taking up too much space.

If you enjoy entertaining in your garden and having friends over then it can be a good idea to consider a larger table. That way you will be able to accommodate plenty of people. A good company specialising in outdoor furniture will have options capable of seating 10, or more people.

Chairs

If you are just looking for a seating option in your garden and don’t feel that you will get the use out of a table set, then there are two main options that you will want to look at. The humble garden bench is a rather underrated and can offer you a great seating option for the garden. It can look great on a patio or even under a tree on your lawn, offering you a great vantage point for the whole garden. They are also easy to move around so if you decide that you need to place it more in the sun, or the shade, this is easy to do.

The second option is a garden sofa arrangement. This can look fantastic on a decking area or patio and offers a fantastic place to relax at the end of a long day.

What is the best material for my garden furniture?

The next thing that confuses people when looking at garden furniture is which material will be best. Garden furniture can be purchased in a range of options, cast iron, wood, plastic and weatherproof materials are all very popular but there are some differences you may want to consider.

  • Wooden garden furniture is stunning and looks great in a very natural garden, but it does require some work every year to keep it looking great. This means sanding it down and then treating the wood to ensure that it last as long as possible. During the winter it can also be a good idea to cover it to protect it from the elements or store it in a garage which is not always practical.
  • Cast iron whilst a little sturdier against the elements than wood can quicky look tired and need some maintenance. Rust should be treated, flaky paint removed, and a new coat of paint applied on a regular basis.
  • Plastic furniture needs very little care just a wash off and it is ready to use, however be wary of cheaper plastic furniture as it can also be damaged by the elements.

In our opinion, weatherproof patio furniture offers the best option. It needs little maintenance to keep it looking fantastic, and it is sturdier than plastic furniture which means it will not break as easily, become brittle due to the sun or even blow around in strong winds.
