The future of education may be in the hands of Artificial Intelligence

Artificial-Intelligence

In recent years, a number of software and hardware along with online services have brought about significant changes to classroom teaching methods. With so many students working from home, technology had to step up. Students used various tech for online classes, to organize their assignments or services where you can buy dissertation online. However, AI may prove to be the real disruptor in education causing a huge transformation, as it has done in many other fields. Slowly but surely, AI is gaining ground in the field of education and experts are suggesting that Artificial intelligence and education will go hand in hand in the future. Though humanoid robots functioning as teachers are a distant dream, let’s take a look the ways in which AI’s digital and dynamic nature can be used for the benefit of education:

Creating smart content

cloud platform

Innovators are crating smart content in the form of digitized textbooks and customized digital -learning interfaces for all levels of education including elementary, post-secondary and corporate environments. The ‘smart’ content helps students to break down and disseminate the content of textbooks into easily understandable study guides, which include chapter summaries, multiple choice and true-false tests, flashcards and so on. Some companies using AI provide personalized learning cloud platforms that have been especially designed to suit the requirements of modern workplaces. This allows employees to improve performance and production as they can use these digital educational tools for studying and self-assessment.

Customized textbooks for specific students and courses

For AI to bring a change in education, it has to be able to go beyond the traditional tools of education, such as text books designed for mass use. In fact, customized text books are being assembled using latest software developments. In this process, the software reads the syllabus and study material imported into the software by educators, masters it and creates new content using core concepts.

Adaptive hypermedia

Hyperlinks, plain text, video, audio, and graphics are used as non-linear mode of instruction tailored according to the model of a user’s preference, goals and knowledge. This is being used in e-learning and in distance learning modules.

Computer-supported interactive and synergetic learning systems

CSCLS is a tool that enables learning via social interaction. This field of e-learning is now experiencing many intersections of AI and education which is leading AI to play a role in future education.

Grading

AI has helped to lighten the burden of teachers assessing students’ for fill-in-the-blanks and multiple choice questions, though grading essays still requires human intelligence, as of now. It might take some time for AI to analyse creative and imaginative essays, but developers are working on that too.

Data mining

Data mining

We can expect AI to bring a change in education through the use of technology to ‘mine’ data from online education systems in order to improve classroom education. In its simplest form, data mining can help in pointing out when a student is deviating from the prescribed course of the online lesson, and can help the student to get back on track, and in the most complex form, it can find out whether the student is bored or interested from the number of key or mouse clicks and help to awaken his/her attention.

Detecting loopholes in explanation

AI can detect and help to fill the gaps, if any, in online explanation. It does this by alerting the teacher when a huge number of students submit a wrong answer and helps the students by giving them hints about the right answer.

Complementing classroom teaching

Artificial intelligence and education will go hand in hand as it has begun solving educational needs of students in the classroom at an individual level. Every student has his / her own pace of learning. AI learning algorithms can be used to glean patterns from students’ data, and then provide suggestions and insights, helping teachers to find the gaps in their teaching. This can lead to teachers being empowered to help students with the subject matter, from the very beginning, when the student might be misunderstanding the material.  An AI powered tutoring system being developed by Stanford and the Washington University will be able to gauge if the current curriculum is helping all the students in learning well or not, and it will also ask students to self-optimize the system.

Thus, human and computer collaborations might lead to the discovery of unique learning approaches, transforming education and leading AI to play a role in future education, which could radically change the traditional methods of education.
