Why Proper Signage Should be a Foundation of Your Marketing Strategy

Proper Signage Should be a Foundation of Your Marketing Strategy

We live in an increasingly digitised world. Whenever we want to send messages to one another, whether it’s a business to a consumer, an employer to an employee, or a friend to a friend, we tend to reach for our mobile phones.

But while there’s a great deal to be said for digital marketing and what it’s done for the modern economy, there’s still much that real-world signage can do that the digital equivalents can’t. Signs help to establish a brand in the real world and unite a physical location or product with the digital branding you might have put out there.

Let’s take a look at some of the reasons why good signage makes a great investment for businesses of every shape and size.

1. Creates a good impression

customers

More than two thirds of customers, according to surveys, feel that the quality of signage is indicative of the quality of the associated product or service. And this is a reasonable assumption, which we make all of the time, in everything from job interviews to romantic encounters – if it looks like very little thought and effort has been put into the presentation of something, then we might not expect much of that something.

2. Puts out the word

Your customers won’t be able to find you as easily if your premises aren’t clearly signposted. This is among the most obvious purposes of having signage in the first place: it’s there to say ‘here we are’. Around eight in ten of us have entered a premise for the first time based solely on the strength of the signage. There’s very little cost to actually walking into a store, even if you decide to walk straight out again. But you can’t make conversions unless you can persuade customers to make that first step. That’s where signage can be invaluable.

3. Joins up your branding

Branding

If you’ve taken great pains to decide on a colour scheme for your business, and you’ve accompanied it with the right font and the right logo, then it makes sense to incorporate that branding into the real world. The right sign is a chance to bridge the gap between the digital world and the real one; it’ll show people who are familiar with your brand that you’re actually here.

4. Directs customers

As well as advertising your brand and your products, signage can be used to inform customers about things they need to know about. This might be a list of services and the associated costs at a hairdresser, or the menu at a restaurant, or directions to follow to navigate a store. You can think of signage as a way of addressing frequently-asked questions – such as where the frozen food aisle is, or how much a short back and sides costs.
